Quality Time : Privacy Glass
What is privacy glass?
Privacy glass is the darker glass commonly seen on the rear half of trucks and SUVs. The darker color makes it a bit difficult to see in from the outside. Privacy glass is made by glass manufacturers in a process that permanently dyes the pane before being put into the vehicle, giving its darker appearance.
How is it different from window film?
Privacy glass differs from window tint in many ways, especially when comparing it to our ceramic films. The biggest difference is that it just doesn’t stop much heat at all. In comparison to ceramic film, the heat rejection numbers are minimal. Since large amounts of Infrared and Ultraviolet light is transferring through the glass, temperatures are quick to rise inside the vehicle.
How is film better?
Beyond the previously mentioned heat rejection, installing window film over your privacy glass on your vehicle has MANY benefits! For one, the installed film can increase your privacy even further. Making it much harder to see in. Protecting you and your belongings. Another benefit of tinting privacy glass is the clarity. Installing a quality film over the privacy glass will act as a filter for light, reducing glare from ambient and surrounding traffic lights, making it easier on the eyes! Even looking through your rear view mirror is way more pleasant since it cuts down the light quite a bit!
Different film shades over the privacy glass does give different overall appearances to the vehicle!
For simplicity-sake, from the factory, most privacy glass is around 20% in darkness. Roughly the same darkness in tint we use, 20%.
Uniformity:
If you are looking for a consistent shade around the sides and rear glass, that is a popular option with our clients. By installing our 20% on the two front doors, that will match the privacy glass darkness pretty close. Installing 70% on the privacy glass will not alter the appearance of the glass, but, it will provide all of the benefits you’d expect from a quality window film, such as the heat rejection, comfort, and clarity looking out. (Way more than you get from the OEM glass)
Added Privacy
Looking for a bit of extra privacy out of the rear half? Installing 20% over the privacy glass will give you added privacy benefits to the rear half of the vehicle. Overall darkness drops down to about 5%, offering a bit more heat rejection, glare reduction and overall increased privacy!
Clear Protection:
If you did not want to alter the appearance of the vehicle much at all, but still want to experience the comfort and benefits of window tint, installing 70% all around will provide amazing benefits, but retain the appearance of how they come from the factory,
Don’t settle for a partial tint job on your new vehicle. There are so many benefits you get out of the film going over that rear half, it would be silly not to protect your entire investment!
